Preparing for Retirement

• Important pension information; your service credit impacts your eligibility and cost share for retiree medical coverage. The New Jersey Division of Pension and Benefits (NJDBP) is the final authority when it comes to tracking your pension service time. Because periods associated with missed pension contributions, such as unpaid leaves, layoffs, or other breaks in service (either at Rutgers or other NJDPB participating employers), can affect your final service time, we strongly encourage ABP members request a formal service credit audit from NJDPB at least six months to one year before their planned retirement date and PERS members view service time via the Personal Benefit Statement on MBOS. (Note MBOS data is typically one quarter behind). University Human Resources can only provide an estimate based on the information available which is not an official determination of service credit.
